Unique and inexpensive honeymoon ideas?

I'm getting pretty frustrated with this whole honeymoon research thing. My fiance seems to think a travel agent isn't worth the money, but he isn't the one trying to figure this stuff out. Everything I like he says is too expensive. And everything he picks is too run of the mill for me. Sandals? Really? Come on. I need a little originality for this. We won't likely be doing this again. I am looking for something a little more secluded. I am also a botanist, so the more beautiful the better. Budget would be about $5000. I do NOT like large resorts, but I understand that you get a better deal that way. Anyone have places they have been to?
